St Valentine’s Gala 2011

This afternoon we hosted the St Valentine’s Gala at Castlemilk pool (this is an annual friendly gala in which we compete against Kilmarnock swim team).

This is the first gala which we have been able to host in the newly refurbished Castlemilk Pool, and I think everyone will agree that it was a great success.

Thanks to the swimmers who represented the club and who swam their best. The team spirit was evident in the way the swimmers supported one another on poolside, and cheered for their team mates in the water, and in the volume of the Kingston chant at the end!

Thanks are also due to all the officials and parents who helped on poolside and with the hospitality today.

Trophies were awarded to best girl and to best boy from both clubs – well done to Niamh Storey and to Thomas Hopgood who won the trophies from Kingston!

Thanks are also due to the pool staff who supported us in their usual friendly and efficient manner.

Well done to the older swimmers who produced a sparkly Kingston banner which they displayed on poolside during the gala!

Many thanks are due also to the Kingston parents who provided a very generous spread of food for the hospitality. For those newer parents, a photo is attached of the table laid in the dance studio (to give an idea of the kind of food which we ask parents to provide for hospitality when we host a meet – sandwiches, filled rolls, home baking, biscuits etc). As usual our parents provided a generous supply of food on the day.

The final scores were 204 points to Kilmarnock and 164 points to Kingston. Well done to Kilmarnock for some great swimming and sportsmanship, and for helping to make our first meet back in Castlemilk a success!
